Dirt, Dust and Speed Cold and Damp vs. Dirt and Dust
Dirt and dust has been hard to come by for the start of the racing season at our local tracks. Two of the first three nights of racing at 34 Raceway West Burlington, IA have been rain-shortened nights. The 4h Annual Slocum 50 held on April 7th., was the only complete night of racing this year. Mike Murphy Jr. was the winner of the 50 Lap event, lapping up to 6th place on what was a cold and damp night as well.
Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, IA has cancelled their first two nights of racing due to cold and/or damp conditions. Our first visit to the Peoria Speedway in Peoria, IL on Sunday 4/15 for the 4th Annual Don Bohlander Memorial Latemodel race was also rained out just as the Latemodel heats were wrapping up.
This past Saturday 4/21 at 34 Raceway was supposed to be a night of double features to makeup for the features rained out on 4/14. All of the racing action was close to being completed with just a few laps left in the Modified feature and the Stock cars, the last feature of the night, waiting in staging. A light sprinkle began to fall than a heavier steady sprinkle and the racing surface turned greasy. The Modified feature was called with #8 Rich Smith leading and was given the checkered flag under the yellow.
Other Feature Winners were:
Hobby Stock Feature #1
#4 Jake Wenig
Modified Feature #1
#14 Tyler Cale
Stock Car Feature #1
#29 Matt Greiner
305 Sprint Cars
#40B Daniel Berquist
4-Cylinders
#14 Nick Wilkerson
Hobby Stock Feature #2
#1F Dan Wenig

See you at the track!
Racing on Dirt is unlike any other sport. The rubbing and bumping... the beating and banging... Dirt provides a unique stage.
There are events on dirt, where horse power takes on distance, where endurance battles the will to continue for both man and machine, and there are events where being first off the line can make all the difference when the dust settles.
Whether it is 2 wheels or 4, racing is a diverse sport that has something for every one. True Fans come out in huge numbers each week to witness the roar of the engines, the broad sliding around the corners and the throwing of mud or clay high into the air at the local dirt track. If you have never been a spectator at a race and witnessed the action, you can't possibly know what you are missing.
We encourage you to attend a racing program at your local dirt track, a tractor pull at the fairground or witness the excitement of a stadium course and support the racers and their sponsors.
dirtdustandspeed.com is on-line to promote all of the racing action that takes place on dirt.
A division of Dirt, Dust & Speed, LLC , it is our goal to produce media and other materials that will create awareness and encourage new fans to come out and watch the action.
Originally, we focused our efforts on the local dirt track... That is our first love. However, we quickly realized that dirt plays an integral part for all kinds of exciting motorsports. From motocross and closed course racing to rally and baja... If it races on dirt you've got to love it.
Explore the site and visit the Store for some cool gear and items that no dirt fan should be without and If there is anything that we have forgotten, please let us know.
Remember, it does not matter if the racing is on the dusty, dry dirt or its sidekick, wet and sticky mud, we promote all motorpsorts that take place on dirt.
After all, "When the pavement ends... the racing begins!"
